Background Information

Chlamydia trachomatis, the causative agent of chlamydia, is a Gram-negative bacterium. Transmission occurs through contact with infected bodily fluids, which infect mucosal membranes. It can also be transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy, potentially causing conjunctivitis in newborns. Genital infections in males can result in urethritis, epididymitis, and prostatitis, while females may develop Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), which increases the risk of acquiring HIV. Antibiotic treatment is effective against the infection. In females, sexually transmitted infections are often asymptomatic but may present as chronic pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding, or painful urination. Infection of reproductive organs such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or uterus can lead to PID, potentially causing infertility, ectopic pregnancy, or difficulty conceiving. In males, infections tend to be symptomatic with painful urination, penile discharge, and swollen testicles, and may also lead to infertility if untreated.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a Gram-negative coccus belonging to the Neisseria genus. Typically appearing in pairs, it infects human mucosal cells, primarily in the male urethra and the female endocervix and urethra. The bacterium possesses a circular DNA genome of approximately 1 Mbp, encoding over 2000 genes. During infection, bacterial polysaccharides stimulate host cells to produce tumor necrosis factors, triggering inflammation. There is currently no vaccine for N. gonorrhoeae, and rising antibiotic resistance has made treatment increasingly challenging. Complications in males may include prostatitis or orchitis if the infection spreads, while in females, invasion of the fallopian tubes or ovaries may result in salpingitis or oophoritis, respectively, which can cause sterility.

Product Description

This Chlamydia/Neisseria gonorrhoeae PCR Lyophilized Kit is designed for the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae specific DNA using real-time PCR technology.

The kit offers a simple, reliable, and rapid method for detecting Chlamydia and Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections through TaqMan PCR. It includes a PCR control to monitor for inhibition and to validate sample quality and detection results.

The kit contains lyophilized components: a PCR Master Mix for both target and control detection, a primer and probe mix specific for Chlamydia and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, as well as positive and negative controls (nuclease-free water) to ensure reagent integrity.

Upon receipt, all lyophilized reagents should be stored at -20°C to preserve shelf life. After reconstitution, store reagents at -20°C until the kit expiration date. Detailed instructions on storage and reconstitution are provided with the kit.

This PCR kit is compatible with various real-time PCR instruments, including rotor-based and block-based detection systems commonly used in molecular biology laboratories.
